In simple terms, photogrammetry is the process of using photos to measure distances and create 3D models. By taking pictures from various angles, special software can combine them to reconstruct the shape and dimensions of the photographed object or area.
Photogrammetry has interested me since I started learning 3D. With the new release of RealityCapture, which is now available for free, it's a great time to delve into the subject. I took a few days to learn the basics and a couple more to take photos and create models.
To take the pictures, I used a Sony A7R II with a Sonnar FE 35mm F2.8 ZA lens and a Google Pixel 7a smartphone.
To process the models, I primarily used RealityCapture, but I also experimented with other apps like Polycam and Kiri Engine.
Here are some of my models available on Sketchfab:
I produced this short video featuring my photogrammetry 3D models.
Created in Blender and edited in DaVinci Resolve.
